The "Sweet Milk" Site:
Researchers

Here are the family members who have significantly participated in the acquisition of the information contained on this web site. Please feel free to e-mail any of them. We are always looking for additional people to join the effort!

CHRISTIAN SUSSMILCH: Christian is regarded by Christian Sussmilch the other researchers as the leading expert on the Sweet Milk family worldwide. He has discovered Sweet Milks back as far as the 1100's, has traced the migrations of family members throughout Europe in the following centuries, and is basically responsible for most of our knowledge of the ancient origins of our family. A Professor of Economics and International Trade, he was born in 1946 and presently lives on the Lacassagne farm near the fortified middle-ages city of Larressingle, France. His branch was originally from Litomerice, Bohemia, but because they were Protestants they migrated to Saxony in Germany at the time of the Thrity Years War (1618-1648). Christian's family has been in southern France since around the 1890's. Christian's professional interest in demographics is closely related to genealogy, thus he is the vice-president of the Gascony Genealogical Society as well as an expert on the life and works of Johan Peter Sussmilch (1707-1767), a noted early demographer and (for genealogists) an advocate of recording vital statistics. Christian is married to Claire, a chemist, and they have two daughters, Pauline and Valerie. He always seems to have some genealogy research projects on-going. For example, presently Christian is involved with the study of migrations along the Viking and Hanseatic routes undertaken by the Union of Genealogical Mid-Pyrenean Associations, and he has recently discovered that original Sweet Milks were most likely Norse Vikings.

ED SUSMILCH: Ed is the main contact for Ed Susmilch the branch of the family descended from the "4 Susmilch Brothers" (actually, 3 brothers and a cousin) from Klisinec, Bohemia. Ed's family comes from the same hamlet of 60 people as Bob's (see below), and has been spearheading the research effort in the Czech Republic to establish the precise link between their families. If successful, it will provide a common linkage between most people presently living in the US with the Susmilch/Sismilich surnames. Ed was born in 1952. He and his wife Nancy have a son, Ed, and a daughter, Kate. They live in Elmhurst, Illinois. Ed, who has two degrees in music, has been an educator for over 20 years and is currently the principal of the Davea Career Center. Ed visited his ancestral hamlet of Klisinec in 1998, getting the opportunity to meet several distant cousins during their adventure.

JACK SUSSMILCH: Jack is the leading contact for Jack Sussmilchthe New Zealand branch of the family. He founded and edits the family Newsletters. Jack is also responsible for a good deal of our knowledge of one of the coats of arms, which had been passed down through his family until it was destroyed a couple of generations ago. Jack's branch has been in New Zealand since around 1909. Jack was born on the North Island in 1977(?), and presently resides in Christchurch, South Island following his 1999 graduation from Lincoln University with a Computer Science degree. Jack had a small computer consulting business while in college, and he is now a computer scientist at Digital/Compaq's Applications Development center in Christchurch. At the present time he is single.

BOB SISMILICH: Bob is the main Bob Sismilichcontact for the Klisinec branch which spells the name as Sismilich. He has been researching the Sismilich family since 1974, and was the first in the United States to discover the Bohemian origins of his family. He has traced his Sismilich branch back to Jan Jirik Sismilich, who moved to Klisinec around 1777. Bob was born in 1952 in Jersey City, NJ, where his Sismilich branch had resided since before the turn of the 20th century. Bob, who has lived most of his life in Northern New Jersey, presently resides in San Diego, California, with his wife JoAnn, a chemist, and daughters Kerri and Krissie. Bob is an Electrical Engineer and a Patent Attorney with the Hewlett-Packard Company. Bob is the webmaster of "The Sweet Milk Site", which replaced his "Origins of the Sismilich Family" web site that he first established in 1996. He has developed software and managed software development for 25 years. His involvement with the Internet since 1987 predates the existence of the World Wide Web by several years.
