The "Sweet Milk" Site:
Dr. Friedrich Ludwig von Sussmilch

Dr. Friedrich Ludwig von Sussmilch emigrated from Wurzen, Germany, to the United States in 1847. He arrived in New York City, went to Milwaukee, then ultimately settled in Delavan, Wisconsin. In 1860, as noted in the Hamburg passenger records, he traveled from Wisconsin back to Germany, possibly on the Lte Cajuete.

In some accounts, he is referred to as von Sussmilch Hornig. In an article entitled "Suessmilch, genannt Hoernig" in the "New German Dictionary of Nobility", vol. 9, p.111, the doctor is linked back through Carl Friedrich v. Suessmilch to this branch. Polish nobility joined the family name in 1775 when the von Hoernig coat of arms was joined with the Suessmilch coat.

Eric Brown, a descendent, is the leading authority on Dr. von Sussmilch. Other descendants are said to live in north Minnesota, perhaps Duluth.
